Verizon’s Fios service supplies the fastest internet connections nationwide, according to USENET Newsgrousp who have posted an article fromPCMag.com. PCMag asked subscribers to test their internet connections over the past nine months using a PCMag-branded version of Speedtest.net.
In addition, PCMag broke up the country into six regions, North Central, Northeast, Northwest, South Central Southeast and Southwest, and measured the fastest ISPs for each region. Midcontinent Communications led ISPs for North Central, with Verizon FiOS taking the lead in Northeast, South Central, Southeast and Southwest regions, and Comcast Cable ranking first for the Northwest.
The previous year’s big three, Cox, Comcast and Charter, remained in the top ten following this year’s results, with Cox being the only ISP to lose ground, as its index number slipped from 15.8 to 14.8, according to the report. Comcast’s index rose from 15.7 the previous year to 17.3, and Charter saw an index gain from 15.0 a year earlier to 18.5,making it the third fastest ISP in the nation this year according to PCMag readers.
FiOS is the fastest ISP in the South Central United States according to the article, where it averaged 32 Mbps. It topped Charter Communications (25 Mbps), Comcast (19.8 Mbps) and Cox (15.7) in the region. FiOS was also the fastest ISP in the Southeast, averaging 23.9 Mbps, and the Southwest, where it averaged 39.8 Mbps.
Midcontinent Communications, also known as Midco, provides cable in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin and claims it can deliver 100Mbps downloads with its MidcoNet Xstream Wideband service.
On a global scale, the US ranks number fifteen for fastest ISPs with an average download speed of 15.3Mbps. Hong Kong ranked first with an index of 45.4, followed by Switzerland with an index of 34.9 and the Netherlands with an index of 27.1. The results from the article on PCMag.com were taken from a total of 110,000 tests complete from 1 January to 19 September at pcmag.speedtest.net.
All these speeds show a rise in general access of many subscribers to these services, making it even easier to access USENET newsgroups from Thundernews.
